Cryptex with Secret Compartment
thingiverse
The cryptex is largely a diversion! It's intended to distract from the secret compartment in the base, which is protected by a mysterious force that few people even know exists: left hand threads! Even if someone suspected the presence of a secret compartment, they would likely never figure out how to open it. The combination can be set prior to assembly. The part labeled "cap" holds everything together and should be glued on with superglue. Write down the combination on a piece of paper and place it in the secret compartment until you memorize it! Once the cap is glued on, you won't be able to guess the combination, due to the symmetric design, which prevents feeling out the combination as easily as asymmetrical cryptex designs. The parts are small and detailed, including fine threads. Suggest using a high quality PLA and doing a flow calibration prior to printing to ensure success. It will feel tight at first, so lap the parts to work them in. In other words, just turn the dials and take it apart and put it back together a few (dozen) times and everything will be smooth as silk!
