Cryptex (Da Vinci Code)
thingiverse
This is a cryptographic device like in the movie "The Da Vinci Code". The password is hidden, and turning the rings makes clicking noises. NEW VERSION !!! Cryptex 2.0: customized http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:918770 Instructions Five pins are required to complete the project. Five clickers and two decoshapes must be obtained. Additional parts can be printed only once. Prior to assembly, it's recommended to paint the cryptex if desired. The process begins with the outer_tube. Remove one clicker from its packaging and slide it into position in the first recess. Press the clicker down firmly using a flat screwdriver while inserting the fist letterring (C) over the clicker until it's flush with the outer tube. Repeat this process for each letterring, applying superglue as needed to secure the end piece in place on top of the outer tube. This ensures that all letterings are secure. Next, assemble the inner tube by fitting the pins into their designated holes and applying a small amount of superglue if necessary for extra hold. Finally, glue decoshapes onto flat front sides of both the outer and inner tubes. Achieving an antique look is as follows: First, paint the entire cryptex with gold. Once dry, lay down a piece of cloth and gently create some streaks using it. Place black high-viscosity paint onto a designated area and roll the Cryptex over the paint in various attempts to achieve optimal results. The project is now complete! Share your experiences.
