Crutch Tip Rubber Foot Adapter

This is a printable repair part designed to strengthen and rebuild the rubber "foot" or tip on standard crutches. Manufacturers often aim for their products to end up in landfills due to fragile components that break easily, but this adapter aims to counteract such disposability. Healthcare providers sometimes suggest replacing crutches without considering the wasteful consumption involved. When a provider asks why you can't get new crutches since insurance covers most of it, this repair part offers a solution to reduce unnecessary replacements. The included STL file is designed for our last set of crutches and fits an Everbilt brand Rubber Leg Tip - 1 1/4" size from Home Depot (SKU 827121). The fender washers that fit inside the tip should prevent the crutch post from punching through the bottom. These washers can be found at Home Depot with a 1 1/4" outside diameter and 3/16" inside diameter. The OpenSCAD source file is included for those who want to adjust the dimensions to fit their specific set of crutches.
