The Carnegie Mellon University's National Robotics Engineering Center has developed the Crusher, an autonomous off-road Unmanned Ground Combat Vehicle for DARPA. A successor to Spinner, it is also known as the Unmanned Ground Combat Vehicle and Perceptor Integration System (UGCV/PIS) in DARPA's technical nomenclature. The project is abbreviated as UPI, which stands for Unmanned Ground Combat Vehicle PerceptOR Integration. Protected by a space frame and skid plates, Crusher can withstand impacts from objects like boulders. Its hybrid engine allows it to travel several miles on one battery charge before the diesel engine kicks in to power the vehicle and recharge the battery module. With dimensions of 4940 mm in length, 2460 mm in width, and 2078.9 mm in height, Crusher was designed using Solid Works 2012 and rendered in Keyshot 5.0.99.
