Early Crusader Helmet Game-ready, low-poly. PBR texture maps created using Substance Painter 2019.2 (file included in downloads) I have also included the Blender and Wings3D files so you can play with the model or UV map as you like. Textures are 2048 x 2048. History: In its most basic form, the great helm was a steel cylinder that completely covered the head and had very small openings for eyes and mouth. Later designs got a more curved top to deflect blows. This style is sometimes called a 'crusader helmet', but also as a 'pot helm'. A later variant with a more conical top is known as a 'sugarloaf helm'. In Spanish, these are called yelmo de Zaragoza, referring to Saragossa where they were introduced for the first time in the Iberian peninsula. The great helm offered greater protection than previous helmets, like the nasal helm and spangenhelm, but limited vision and provided poor ventilation. A knight might wear a steel skull cap known as a cervelliere beneath the great helm or its later development, the bascinet.
