Here is a fresh sheet of paper that has been crumpled up into a small, irregular shape. It now looks like a misshapen wad, as if someone had taken a normal piece of paper and repeatedly twisted it until it resembled nothing more than a small bundle of tightly packed air. The original crisp edges have given way to deep creases that stretch from top to bottom, like the rough texture of tree bark. One can almost imagine that if one were to uncrumple this piece of paper, it would spring back into its original state with a quiet whoosh of newly awakened form. But for now, it remains in its current shape, a small but tangible reminder of careless hands at work.
