Sun Viking was a flagship cruise ship originally ordered by Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines as part of its early fleet expansion. First put into service in 1972, this massive vessel quickly became a staple of Caribbean based cruise travel, offering passengers unforgettable experiences along the Mexican Riviera and throughout the Caribbean. The Sun Viking's impressive itinerary featured seven-day cruises out of Los Angeles and San Juan Puerto Rico, drawing travelers from all over the world. However, as the years went by, Royal Caribbean decided to retire this iconic ship in the late 1990s. But Sun Viking's story didn't end there - it was sold to Star Cruises and renamed SuperStar Sagittarius in 1998. Two years later, she underwent another transformation, becoming Hyundai Pongnae for the Hyundai Merchant Marine Company. In 2003, the ship received yet another new name: Omar III, which marked its debut with Asia Cruises. In 2007, a dramatic change occurred once again as the ship was renamed Long Jie. After being put up for sale in June 2010, the Long Jie underwent a major refurbishment at a Singaporean dry dock. The revamped vessel emerged as Oriental Dragon, setting sail from Singapore on March 24, 2011, bound for Guangzhou, China.
