Crosshair laser mount for Stepcraft CNC
thingiverse
Here is a crosshair laser mount for the standard Stepcraft CNC tool mount, based on an idea by mikath in the Stepcraft forum: https://www.stepcraft-systems.com/en/forum/software2/3245-cross-laser-and-uccnc I liked the concept of using a local installation with batteries but wanted to create a more improved holder. I came up with a click-on design that attaches to the side of the stock milling head and hooks into the vacuum head screw mount hole, and I recommend adding a small strip of double-sided adhesive tape on the inside that follows the round tool holder to keep it tight in place without further movement. Since I also wanted a "local unit" design, I used the original idea of a battery case with switch and wired the laser directly to the battery case for short cabling and to avoid routing long cables along the axis. Because there are few mount options around the milling head for the case without limiting axis movement, I used a Velcro strip to secure the battery case to the vacuum hose. When changing to the laser head, I simply detach the Velcro, change the head, and reattach the battery to the laser exhaust tube. So the crosshair laser can always be left in place, and there should be less need for recalibrating the XY offsets, but it can still be removed without tools if needed. I have attached the sample M202 macro from mikath for UCCNC that can be used for resetting XY to zero and placing the mill at XY zero coordinates afterwards. To use it, manually place the crosshair at your destination point and execute M202 (Park 3). The macro contains the offset values that work for me using this holder and should be pretty close to yours when using it.
