I couldn't agree more - high-quality XC ski benches can be hard to come by, and when you do find them, they often break the bank. The makeshift fix I've seen involves cutting up an old bicycle tube and zip-tying it to the triangle for added friction. Meanwhile, a simple smooth nail is used as the pin for the binding.
