Crosley RSD3 Additional Counterweight Adapter

Crosley RSD3 Additional Counterweight Adapter

I recently got a Crosley RSD3 mini 3" turntable. Out of the box, the tracking force was so high that it would literally stop the record from spinning. My tracking force scale tops out at 3 grams, but it was way over that. So, I designed this little adapter that lets you add more weight to the tonearm's counterweight. It fits over the stock counterweight and can be filled with up to 8 #8-32 nuts (available at any hardware store). I'm running it with 6 nuts, which puts the tracking force around 2.75 grams, within the 2.5-3.5 grams recommended for the included NP5 stylus. You can use however many nuts you need, but it probably makes sense to balance them on both sides. Using this doesn't require you to make any permanent modification to your turntable. It just slips over the existing counterweight and can easily be removed. It's easiest to install (or remove) it by taking the stock counterweight off (just remove the screw in the middle) and fitting it into this adapter, then putting it back on. The RSD3's dust cover also fits with this installed. Included is the STL as well as the ShapeScript file used to generate it in case you want to modify it.
