Crocodile Skull

The human skeleton is a wondrous and complex thing, but have you ever stopped to think about the fascinating anatomy of a crocodile skull? The snout of a crocodile is long and pointed, perfect for snapping shut on unsuspecting prey. Its upper jaw is lined with rows of razor-sharp teeth, while its lower jaw contains smaller teeth that act as guides to help guide food into the stomach. The skull itself is made up of two main parts: the cranium and the mandible. The cranium houses the brain and sensory organs, including the eyes, ears, and nostrils. It's a sturdy part of the skull, capable of withstanding tremendous forces without breaking. Meanwhile, the mandible is made up of several bones that work together to form the jawbone. Its lower end is connected to the hyoid bone via a complex system of muscles and ligaments. A close look at a crocodile's skull reveals an intricate network of blood vessels and nerves that supply the brain and other vital organs. The nasal cavities are also surprisingly large, considering how small they appear from the outside.
