Crocodile Offertory or Altar
myminifactory
Offertories or Altars Discovered only in the Guanacaste Subregion of Costa Rica, these sculptures are distinctive cylinders with a narrow waist, wider at each end, and always adorned with large, stylized heads of crocodiles or alligators. Previously believed to be seats, recent excavations now suggest they were actually altars where offerings were carefully placed. This object is part of "Scan The World", a non-profit project launched by MyMiniFactory, which aims to create a global digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks and landmarks for the public to access at no cost. Scan The World is an open-source community effort, if you have unique items around you and would like to contribute, email stw@myminifactory.com to find out how you can be a part of it.
