Where the Coulomb is low and sleek, Leptronica is more robust- but not without a sense of fun. The top half of the horizontally-split windscreen folds out and down over the lower half, and the canvas roof rolls back along cored carbon safety rails, creating a simple but fun convertible for breezy city driving on warm summer days. Like the Coulomb, Leptronica easily seats two, and employs a monocoque composite body system that allows for easy production, with a reinforced safety cage around an airy cockpit that could be built separately or as an integral part of the body. The safety frame and non-faired wings allow for beguiling two-tone colour schemes, which harken back- along with the design language- to the golden age of European city cars, of 500s, Isettas and voiturettes. Beneath the seats, all four batteries rest on a tray that will slide out when the side door is open, and which could be held in place by the lowered seats. Together with the motor, they are place low to maintain a good centre of gravity. As with the Coulomb, the steering wheel could incorporate a tablet-holder, and steering would ideally be by wire. For economy and easy of use, the convertible roof could simply roll back; the slide-down windscreen could be automatic or manual. The tail end of the car holds a reasonable amount of space, accessed through a boot with an elegant ergonomic lifting handle that melds into the chine running down the car's rear centreline. Sorry about the black areas of some of the glass in my renderings- can't seem to get rid of them!
