Characteristics: This 3D printed adapter design allows users to utilize their best available filtration membrane, preventing mask obsolescence due to filter shortages. The adapter consists of two parts: the connection piece that attaches to the mask where the snorkel would normally be located, and the grill that secures the filter membrane against the adapter. Filter options include cutouts from various materials such as N95 masks, P100 filters, cloth, coffee filters, HEPA vacuum cleaner bags (without fiberglass), and more. Advantages: • The device is easily manufactured on 3D deposition machines. • By enabling the use of multiple filter membranes, it prevents mask obsolescence. When resources are scarce, it allows protection even with non-ideal materials. • Disposable N95 masks must be discarded due to shape loss and compromised sealing against the face from moisture exposure. With this device, filter material lasts longer since it's less exposed to moisture and maintains its structure between the adapter and grill. • The device can be easily cleaned with soap and water (excluding the filter membrane). • The device is more compact, reducing the risk of extended exposure to shocks. • A single filter resource can be transformed into multiple units. For example, a single N95 mask can be cut into 2 or more filter membranes. • The device can be quickly redesigned to fit various snorkel mask models. • The device allows users to perform a face seal test by covering the grill and manually sealing it when inhaling and exhaling with the grill locked.
