Creatures of Thingiverse
thingiverse
Customizable creatures from Thingiverse have inspired me to create a diverse array of critters for users to enjoy. This ongoing project involves adding new pieces regularly, with the goal of involving many people in creating unique parts and accessories for their collections. The creatures can be customized in size, detail, and even joints or moving parts. Users are encouraged to give their creatures names, different colors, and decals, and share their creations online. The initial iteration of these critters is approximately 2 inches x 3 inches x 2 inches, but users can request larger sizes if desired. The designer welcomes feedback on the level of detail and additional features to be incorporated into future iterations, such as scales or more joints. Users can also request specific body types or parts, which will keep the creator motivated to design new pieces. To create their own unique critter, users need to print and clean up the chosen pieces, assemble them, and decorate as desired. The current collection includes various tails, ears, and mouths for one head type and body type. Users are encouraged to share their creations, stories, or even animations featuring these open-source creatures. The designer is currently without a 3D printer at home but has checked the meshes and hopes there will be no issues with printing. Eye decals are also available for users to add eyes to their critters. The instructions can be updated based on user feedback, and users are encouraged to share their prints and processes online. Recent updates include new step files with parts oriented flat for easier printing and a zip file containing all the parts. A missing tail hole in an earlier version has been fixed, along with the addition of new ears. The designer is interested in hearing about users' printing experiences and whether they need additional simplification for these characters. Happy making!
