I think the square base of the prototype is completely unnecessary - a total waste of material. My own foot weighs in at 12 grams when printed from ABS, while the mass of the prototype is a whopping 19 grams ==> that's four feet' worth of savings on plastic, or 4 x 7 = 28 grams. In my book, that's not bad!
