I made a custom mount so I could shorten my Bowden tube, allowing me to reduce retraction during prints to 5-6mm with PETG and minimize stringing. To replicate this mod, you'll need a stepper motor extension cable and a PTFE Bowden tube kit with M6 and M10 connectors. Be sure to look for a kit that includes a tube cutter for clean cuts on the tubing. Alternatively, you can install the mod without removing your Bowden tube from the hot-end; simply trim excess at the extruder end. You'll also need a few screws and matching V-slot T-nuts to secure the mount to your printer. M5x8mm button-head socket screws work well in this application. This modification doesn't require tapping any metal. I used PTFE tubing from the Bowden kit as a filament guide tube between the mounted filament guide and the connector at the back of the extruder. I also utilized my newfound flexibility to mount the filament spool holder on the left side of the machine, aligning it with the left side of the cube frame without obstructing it. Adding tightly curled filament can be tricky, but I've found a solution that works for me: working the filament up to the extruder inlet and letting the extruder motor take it in (with the hotend set above 170C) before releasing tension and pushing it into the Bowden tube from the spool side.
