Creality Dual Drive Extruder Direct Drive Adapter Bracket
thingiverse
I was stoked to convert my Ender 5 to direct drive and take advantage of Creality's dual drive extruder design. While it's not as robust as Bondtech or Titan, it's a steal for the price, and many folks say it packs a decent amount of torque. I ordered a direct drive kit online and was prepping to hack it together with the dual geared extruder... but then I noticed the bracket that came with it was designed for Creality's MK8 extruder (metal and plastic). After taking some measurements, I realized that the filament in-and-out path of this kit's design could be preserved with a custom bracket - so that's what I set out to create! It turns out that between the MK8 extruder design and Creality's dual geared extruder, they share the same filament path (same distance from left to right and dimensionally the same from the bottom up), despite the fact that the dual geared design is almost twice as tall. I took a digital caliper to the dual geared extruder I received and did my best to measure and model it to get the bracket just right. The extruder base I made is uploaded for reference purposes only - I'll let everyone know how it prints and comes together! NEWEST UPDATE: 20 DEC 2019 - Printed it out and it fits like a glove! However, the holes were too small for M3 bolts, so I reworked the clearance needed for the M4 nut that holds the extruder spring in place. I'm really happy with how the body face fit against the extruder frame, though - those dimensions were spot on!
