Crazy Gears
thingiverse
Following the paradoxical gear mechanism. I created a third gear that perfectly mirrors the others, creating two identical gears on one side and one on the other. Both left-hand gears rotate in the same direction, while the right-hand gear rotates in reverse. I hypothesized that a three-gear system could be functional, and indeed it works - albeit in an astonishing way. Mechanical engineers may deem this setup impossible, yet it operates smoothly with moderate speed. To achieve optimal results, one must ensure the gears do not rotate too quickly, as excessive friction can hinder performance. Printing the gear set is straightforward, but careful finishing touches are essential to prevent premature wear. Proper lapping of the gears ensures they function efficiently. I utilized an Ultimaker 2 printer for this project.
