Puzzle Description: This puzzle is a clone of MF8/Dayan Crazy 3x3x3, and it allows you to create a series of puzzles, including official and non-official ones. You can also make a spare piece if you lose or break one. All parts are designed to be the same size as original parts, making them interchangeable between printed and original toys. Each side of the puzzle has a circle, with two types of circle faces: 0 (zero) - inner pieces are fixed, only outer pieces move when the face turns; and 1 (one) - both inner and outer pieces move. Different combinations of 0 and 1 faces give you 8 official puzzles named after planets. There is also a non-official puzzle with type 2 faces. To assemble the puzzle, most parts are split into two or more subparts to avoid using supports while printing. Some parts are rotated so that applied forces do not crack pieces by layers. The file names indicate which face type each piece belongs to, and some pieces are printed in symmetrical parts (L and R suffix). Calculating how many pieces you should print is crucial. For 0 and 1 faces, you will need 4 inner edges (L+R), 4 outer edges, 4 inner corners (L+R), 4 outer corners (L+R), a center piece, and a cap (top and bottom). For type 2 faces, the same applies, but exclude inner corners and edges. The center cap is glued from two pieces - one facial and one with hooks. Assembly requires some skill, especially for outer corners, which consist of six printed parts that need to be glued together in a specific way. I recommend sanding flat parts so they can be glued to flat sanded faces of other corner triplets. Recommendations: I do not recommend printing this puzzle unless your 3D printer produces superior quality parts. Printing and sanding will take up a lot of time, and the resulting quality will likely be worse than original toys. I suggest buying original puzzles, which turn much better. The best way is to buy two complementary puzzles (please Google which ones), which will give you a full set of pieces, including type 0 centers and type 1 centers. If you already have one, you can still use this thing to print spare parts or replace broken ones. Parts have the same dimensions as original toys and are interchangeable, assuming center pieces come with caps (which have a slightly different internal structure). Bottom Line: The Onshape document where I designed this puzzle is available here: https://cad.onshape.com/documents/11160c2435cccdafa1ed0301/v/79eacc2fef025528d6849b82/e/2d234dad39c32b66db7ce84e. Feel free to clone and make adjustments if needed. I am open for feedback about the puzzle, design, and printing process.
