Cranshaw Thorn Hill 08 (July 2013)
sketchfab
This small stone is nestled within the crumbling remnants of ancient walling on Cranshaw Thorn Hill, Ilkley Moor, Rombalds Moor, West Yorkshire.\nIt's likely that this stone spent most of its existence as a carved artifact hidden from view, given the level of motif preservation. The majority of cups, rings and grooves are irregularly shaped and crudely etched, yet they still display fresh-looking pecking marks. However, a central broad groove and possible worn ring south of the pecked ring lack clear evidence of tooling, suggesting different stages of carving may have occurred over time. This stone is documented in Boughey & Vickerman's 2003 publication 'Prehistoric Rock Art of the West Riding' as IAG276 and was added to ERA by the CSI:Rombalds Moor Project as 'Cranshaw Thorn Hill 08'. It received protected monument status in 1995 as part of the MPP. \nERA record: https://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/era/section/panel/details.jsf?eraId=2593\nHistoric England scheduling: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1012834\nThis model was created from 11 photos captured in July 2013.
