The crankshaft is a critical component in engines which typically consists of medium-carbon steel alloys containing iron with 0.25% to 0.45% carbon. It is responsible for converting the linear motion of pistons into rotational movement, driving the engine's output shaft, camshaft(s), and oil pump, as well as other devices. Made from steel, its design enables it to effectively transform reciprocating motion into rotational motion.
