I've started building this without knowing about a machine that already exists called the Bukito. Since I've come across it now, I want to mention it for this build. Additionally, I'd like to refer to the OpenBot on openbuilds. My goal was to create a printer as simple as possible with a minimized number of parts. I'm confident this can be assembled within just a few hours! Design goals included ease and speed in assembly, a minimized parts count, a stiff frame, a lower center of gravity, and portability. The build utilizes 2040 V-slot and solid V-wheels. This was my first time building with V-slot and I'm thoroughly impressed with the result - it's very quiet and offers smooth linear motion. In the coming days, I plan to put together a BOM and also a build manual if there's enough interest. I'll post a link to a video of it printing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnQ_Ru8LSPU I want to reference Sakunamary and Wersey for their design work on the controller mount - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:204962, http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:87250. The extruder was derived from a model created by Oodaner: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:390020. Instructions to build it: Make the carriage plates by using an inkjet or laser printer and print off the drill template. To start, you need to install Inkscape. Once installed, open and print the drill template DXF file.
