My wife is Dutch, my kids are half-Dutch. The Decemberists hail from Portland. Whatever the case may be, I wanted a change of pace and decided to tackle something entirely new by converting the Crane Wife album artwork into an SVG file, then thinking up cool art that could be 3D printed from it. I landed on this sun-catcher/Dutch pottery monstrosity. If I were doing it over again, I'd add a lip to the stand and deepen the groove slightly to ensure a snug fit for the plaque. This particular iteration required some Gorilla Glue to make it work. Print Settings Printer Brand: Ultimaker Printer: Ultimaker 2 Rafts: Yes Supports: No Resolution: Normal Infill: Light Notes: The brim pulled up a bit, but the Ultimaker handled the details just fine. Post-Printing Post Production After smoothing out the edges and cleaning things up, I glued the base to the plaque. Then I took this lovely stuff and filled in the gaps (just like a sun-catcher). The wider the gap was, the more fiddling with the goop it took to get it right. Eventually, I coated the whole thing with a wet paintbrush to clean up any imperfections. That's when it hit me: I had created something that looked distinctly Dutch. How I Designed This Simple Steps Grabbed the .jpg from Wikipedia Opened it in Inkscape Traced the bitmap and fiddled with the live preview until I was satisfied Inverted (my initial thought was to create a stamp) Cropped Exported it as an .svg Opened it in Tinkercad Created a stand and background: https://tinkercad.com/things/iNuIumUvMdJ Uploaded it to Thingiverse Printed Painted
