Crane Hook
grabcad
Solid Edge users often reach out to us about integrating a crane hook into their designs. To do this, we'll use a combination of features within Solid Edge to create a functional 3D model that can be exported to KeyShot for rendering. First, open up a new part in Solid Edge and switch to the sketch workspace. Create a new sketch by going to "Tools" > "Sketches" > "New Sketch." Name this sketch "Crane Hook" and set its units to inches or millimeters depending on your preference. Next, draw a simple hook shape using the circle tool. Start by drawing a small circle for the base of the hook, then draw two larger circles that will form the upper portion of the hook. Use the tangent command to connect these circles together, forming a smooth curve. Once you have your hook shape defined, exit the sketch and create a new part by going to "Tools" > "Parts" > "New Part." Name this part "Crane Hook" as well. With the new part open, go back to the sketch workspace and select the "Sketches" tab in the top left corner of the screen. Click on the "Insert Sketch" button and choose the "Crane Hook" sketch we created earlier. This will insert the hook shape into our new part. Now it's time to add some detail to our crane hook. Go back to the sketch workspace and create a new sketch by going to "Tools" > "Sketches" > "New Sketch." Name this sketch "Hook Details" and set its units to inches or millimeters depending on your preference. Draw a series of lines that will form the details of the hook, such as the notches at the top and bottom. Use the tangent command to connect these lines together, forming smooth curves. Exit the sketch and select the "Parts" tab in the top left corner of the screen. Click on the "Insert Sketch" button and choose the "Hook Details" sketch we created earlier. This will insert the details into our crane hook part. With all the necessary parts defined, it's time to assemble them together. Go back to the sketch workspace and create a new assembly by going to "Tools" > "Assemblies" > "New Assembly." Name this assembly "Crane Hook Assembly." Insert the crane hook part we created earlier into the assembly by clicking on the "Parts" tab in the top left corner of the screen, then selecting the "Insert Part" button. Choose the "Crane Hook" part and click "OK." Repeat this process for the hook details part, inserting it into the assembly as well. With all the parts assembled, we can now export our crane hook to KeyShot for rendering. Go back to the assembly and select the "Tools" > "Export" > "KeyShot Export" menu item. Choose the desired settings for your render and click "OK." Your crane hook will now be exported to KeyShot where you can further refine it with additional details or materials.
With this file you will be able to print Crane Hook with your 3D printer. Click on the button and save the file on your computer to work, edit or customize your design. You can also find more 3D designs for printers on Crane Hook.
