Craftsman/Porter-Cable oil-less air compressor noise suppressor (muffler)

This is a noise suppressor/muffler designed specifically for certain models of Craftsman and Porter-Cable oil-less compressors. It's intended for compressor heads using filter/intake part #CAC-1371 or similar (check images). The design requires a flexible plastic like TPU or similar, as it needs to be flexible for a snug slip fit over the stock assembly. The suppressor was designed with an older Craftsman 30 Gal. upright model 919.167310 in mind, onto which it fits perfectly under the compressor shroud. It should also fit many other compressors of this style. This device will reduce the harshness and loudness of the compressor intake noise to a small extent. Keep in mind that an oil-less compressor will never be completely quiet, so you'll need more than just this suppressor for optimal results. To install, remove the shroud from your compressor. You can either use the stock foam filter by pressing it into the suppressor's inner ring and then over the intake fully, or you can use a roughly 3" (75mm) dia. disk of thin filter fabric that air flows through freely. I used a synthetic filter fabric, similar to what's found wrapping tubular charcoal water filter cores. Simply hold the disk in front of the stock intake and press the suppressor over it, ensuring the edges of the fabric get sandwiched into the groove all around. The fit is snug and should not easily pull or vibrate off. Make sure you test for sufficient air flow before replacing the shroud. Don't run one of these compressors without the shroud for more than a short test, as it's integral to the air-cooled design and they can get extremely hot very quickly.
