CR Series & Ender3 X Axis Lead Screw Drive
thingiverse
This is the lead screw for the X axis on my CR-10 S5. It's designed around a CR-10 S3 but should fit all sizes with the right lead screw. I think this will also fit the Ender3. I do not have one to test however I will be installing this and the Y axis screw drive on my CR-10 S5. #[See the Y axis here](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4039877) It appears you need width+200mm for your 4 start 8mm lead screw. A larger X motor and 24v system is needed as well as an aftermarket control board like a SKR 1.4 or so. The [BTT S42B](https://www.biqu.equipment/products/bigtreetech-s42a-42-stepper-motor-closed-loop-driver-board-with-oled-display?variant=31362657484898) is also required. This closed loop control is what makes it all possible. You also need a new endstop switch. I had trouble with CR-10 ones breaking so used a generic one. You can see it in the pictures. For hardware it mostly uses what's there. You will need some M3x15mm bolts for the new motor mount and M3x12 for the motor. The bearing cap and leadscrew nut are held in with self threading M3x10 screws. #[You can see it run here!](https://youtu.be/TQd7z-Z5ECQ) #BOM Amazon Links for ease - [BTT S42B Closed Loop Control x1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08G1B9FNT/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A1SDOJSBTWEFBJ&psc=1) - [5 to 8mm Shaft Coupler](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07YYBQHVX/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=AJUKUXZVPYM6H&psc=1) - [2amp Nema17 Motor x1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PNEQKC0/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=AWQBCGWISS7BL&psc=1) - [For the CR-10 S5 like I have, a 700mm 4 start leadscrew](https://www.amazon.com/ReliaBot-700mm-Thread-Starts-Printer/dp/B07NMJYLBS/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=700mm+t8+lead+screw&qid=1617976519&sr=8-3) - [8x14x5mm Bearings x 2](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ZVF8EMU/ref=ox_sc_act_title_5?smid=A2M9H7NY6J5VFH&psc=1) - [M3 Self Threading Screws Varies](https://www.amazon.com/LBY-Stainless-Carbon-Tapping-Combination/dp/B07GL1TCBR/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=m3+self+threading+screws&qid=1617929227&sr=8-4) - [Endstop](https://www.amazon.com/Longruner-Mechanical-Endstop-Makerbot-LKB01/dp/B06XTB7WMK) - [Anti-backlash nut for the leadscrew](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08PYYPTSW/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A2E52U58FCDBRC&psc=1) - [Superlube, this stuff is silicone based and amazing. I use it on the leadscrews in my CNC mills. A little goes a long way, Apply a thin bead to the screw and run your finger over it then run the axis fully a few times.](https://www.amazon.com/Super-Lube-21010-Synthetic-Blistered/dp/B000BXKZQU/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=super+lube&qid=1617976755&sr=8-4) There's all the STLs and a document about the closed loop controller. #Setup the closed loop control: - Set 16 microsteps and 2000ma current on both - On the mainboard setup the jumpers for DRV8825 - In Marlin set the motor to DRV8825 - I set 510.5 steps per mm for X and Y and it seems dead on. Print with support! Due to the shape of the machine these parts are not the easier to print. However it should work fine in any material. I use PLA myself. Will work with most other mods! This is a WIP due to not yet being tested on the actual machine. - Updated 4/8/2021 I redesigned a lot of it. Changed the bearings, added one at the motor end with the stop in it. Added an optional chain mounting that uses my chain, or most others. The chain parts are included. Print enough for the length plus 6 links. - Updated 4/16/2021 Installing this now and found a few small issues. Redesigned the motor plate, motor bearing cap, X mount and switch mount for better fit and alignment. Lots of strength improvements too. Added enclosed bearing cover option to cover the end of the lead screw up to 25mm past the bearing. - Updated 4/17/2021 Something got messed up on the X motor plate. I also noticed it's making a lot of noise just due to it's shape. I repaired the model and added a cover plate that screws over the motor plate to quiet it down. - Updated 6/2/2021 I reuploaded everything, Something got messed up and a few files where missing. This includes a camera mount arm I made as well. The rest of the cam parts can be found [here](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3539456)
