CR-6 Dragonfly BMS and Sherpa Mini Mount

CR-6 Dragonfly BMS and Sherpa Mini Mount

prusaprinters

This is my remix to mount a CR type hot end like the Dragonfly BMS and a Sherpa Mini on top. I had to make the mount higher because the Sherpa can't line up with the strain gauge with-out colliding with the back plate but the filament path is still fairly short. The only alternative is to add spacers to the strain gauge to move it out.The Sherpa model I found and used seemed to have a section the sticks bellow its base but my model does not have this feature. If you have a sherpa with this then it may not fit this mount and would need to be raised even more. Start by putting in the 3mm heated insert in all locations. To install first mount the hot end rotated. For the dragonfly I rotated it 180 degrees to mount from the back of the mount. Then install the PTFE tube cut to the right length. Read my warning about this part to avoid problems. Then mount the Sherpa and make sure the PTFE tube is at the right length so that the Sherpa is pushing nice and tight against the hotend to avoid any movement or gap at either end of the PTFE tube. The rest should be straight forward. I recommend you install my adjustable fang duct so you can adjust it to your hot end length. The Dragonfly is longer than the typical Ender/CR hot end.  Since the whole thing is sitting on the strain gauge I find it does drop a bit. I may have a solution for this but it is not bad and seems to print just fine so I'll print for a while with this before making any changes. The solution is to make the gauge opening more narrow so the printed mount is actually sitting on the fix outer section of the strain gauge.I have a Revo CR and I could adjust this  mount to work but I would need a Fusion 360 model of the Revo CR.  If anyone know where to get this I'd love to try.Hopefully someone will find this design useful.WARNING: When mounting this do NOT add the clip to lock the PTFE tube when installing it. The hot end should press against the mount and avoid the PTFE adapter from releasing and locking onto the the PTFE tube. You can get into a situation where the tube can't get out and it is stuck in the strain gauge. Because the hot end is bolted from the back you don't have easy access so it can't easily be removed with-out removing the whole mount first. I'm thinking of a different design to fix this problem but no solution yet.WARNING2: I am not great at Fusion 360 so I expect the exported design to be messy. I do what I can. Feel free to clean it up. I'll get better given enough time.Update Jan 22nd 2022: I uploaded a small improvement and a cleanup of the fusion 360 source file.
