Cr-10 Filament Topload Conversion
thingiverse
This is a modification to relocate the spool holder to the top of the frame. I converted my CR-10S with a direct drive extruder and deleted the bowden tube. I mounted my spool to the top of the frame using standard t-slot hardware, but my direct drive bracket became too tall at the top of the print area and either hit the spool or pulled the filament at a bad angle. I decided to create a canted mount for the spool, along with a filament sensor mount that matches it. Mount the spool holder to the frame using 2ea M5x20 screws and 2ea M5 t-slot nuts. Mount the filament sensor adapter to the frame with 2ea M4x12 screws and 2ea M4 t-slot nuts. The filament sensor adapter accepts the standard CR-10S filament sensor switch and lid. An optional bowden tube guide can be fashioned using a PC4-M10 fitting and standard bowden tube. The X-axis bracket provides a method of securing the extruder wiring at the front of the frame instead of mounting it behind the frame. At some point, I may redesign with a long feeder bowden tube to minimize the lifting effect of the extruder motor pulling up on the filament and lifting the gantry during extrusion. For now, I'll test the current setup first and see if I have any issues. If not, I'll leave it as is.
