CR-10 Fan Shroud
thingiverse
This is a custom-designed shroud for the CR-10 OEM cooling fan that comes with the machine's original parts. The fan itself is meant to block airflow entering around the nozzle, while directing turbulent flow directly onto the printed part. Since this design is hollow on the inside, no supports are needed, and any sagging near the nozzle actually increases turbulence, which is beneficial for the printing process. Getting to this final model took 13 iterations of trial and error, and it's still a work in progress that requires further refinements. Initially, I intended to create a remix of an existing design but ended up completely redesigning the piece from scratch. The original design had the half-circle hole placed too far towards the center of the OEM fan, which was not ideal for my needs. What's more, it was originally designed for an e3D printer rather than the CR-10. To get started with this project, I used a hotend fan cover from Thingiverse (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2160958) as a starting point. If you spot any areas that need improvement or updates, please don't hesitate to let me know so I can make the necessary adjustments.
