CR-10 extruder and part cooling fan mount
thingiverse
This replaces all or part of the existing extruder and part cooling fan mounts on at least the CR-10S models. Hopefully, somebody can confirm if they work for other CR-10 models. The design allows you to see the extruder nozzle while printing. The part cooling fan mount/duct has small slots to adjust the height off bed, which is a great feature. I designed them so you can start with both part edges flush and then adjust as needed. I dropped mine down lower by 1mm approx. Due to my incorrect wiring of the extruder and part cooling fans, I came up with this solution to use a spare 40x40 fan. I also prefer not to use the blower type part cooling fans that come with the CR-10's. With this setup, I was finally able to produce the best-looking benchy print I've ever done. Benchy's hull is smooth as can be. To assemble, remove the existing steel extruder housing and fans, then take out the two screws holding the extruder to the backing plate. You'll need to loosely assemble the extruder into the new housing, slide the tab on the right side down over the backing plate, and align it as best as possible. Then, loosely attach all four screws - the two to the backing plate and the two holding the extruder to the backing plate (in whatever order you can). Make sure the extruder is where it needs to be, then tighten it down first, and finally tighten the two screws holding the mounts to the backing plate. The main two files that make up the design in the pictures are: 5015-fang-mod1_extruder and part fan mount.stl (base remixed from spider65's "Dualfang" design) CR-10 part cooling duct.stl Supports are required for those two files due to the preferred orientation for printing. However, none of the internal duct surfaces require any supports. EDIT: Fixed the orientation of two files and added a couple more Fusion files also. You'll need three 3mm x 8mm long flat head screws to connect these two parts together. You'll also need 3mm x whatever length you need to mount the fans with. Additionally, you'll need one 40x40 radial type fan as the stock part cooling fan will not work with any of these parts. The two other files are extras if anybody is interested but both have been designed for CR-10's and were used before this final design. They are: 40x40 part cooling duct with 13.8 degree angle.stl (just the duct) CR-10 part cooling fan mount and duct_for stock setup.stl (if you want to keep the steel extruder housing cover, you can replace the part cooling fan with this) I've included four F360 files. In the 40x40 fan hood.f3d file, I used a construction workplane to define the outlet angle. Set the angle to 0 degrees and this part will work for many printers other than CR-10's. HTH someone out there!
