CR-10 Enhanced Fan Duct with Shield
thingiverse
This is a fan shroud designed specifically for the CR-10 that effectively blocks most of the air from the hot-end fan when it hits the print. The primary goal was to create something like this to help print ABS, especially until an enclosure can be built. Most designs either blocked too much airflow or failed to improve it enough. I wanted a shroud that would block air when the cooling fan wasn't on but still function well when the cooling fan is needed. So far, this design has worked exceptionally well and I'm open to suggestions for further improvement. I printed the prototype in PLA and used it to print one in ABS. The PLA version performed fine, however there was some evidence of melting/warping around the nozzle, indicating that a more heat-resistant material such as ABS or PETG would be preferable for long-term use. The part is designed to be printed in three separate pieces which are then glued or welded together. I used ABS filament and made my own adhesive using acetone and scrap ABS. The results were very effective. The locating pins on the parts are relatively small, measuring only 1.5mm in diameter, so precise settings will be necessary to ensure a proper fit. The holes measure 1.6mm in diameter, making it simple to clear any stray plastic using a small drill bit, such as a 1/16" bit. The final version I uploaded has undergone minor tweaks to improve the design's overall fit and finish compared to my initial prototype.
