I'm adding a little remix on mounting my Pi with one of my custom-made PiPlates. The USB and Ethernet ports face the rear, along with a compartment next to it that can hold a converter or power brick for the pi. A hole lets me plug in the Micro USB of the pi for power, another hole allows fan wires to pass into the same compartment. There's also a hole to pass power from the control box; alternatively, the "ExtPower" base version has a 15mm hole at the rear if I want to power the pi with an independent wall wart supply. Since access to two of the USB ports will be limited due to the base plate leg, I can still fit something small like a compact WiFi dongle or small flash drive. I printed the base without supports, but my PiPlate needed supports in the slots for the clips and round pegs; I kept x/y clearance up around 0.5mm or higher to prevent supports from fusing to the side of the narrow grooves. The lid also needs support for the pegs, so I print the Pi clips laying down as shown to avoid breaking them at the layer lines. After installing my Piplate, I put the cover over the mounting lug, allowing one of the lid's 3mm screws to hold the piplate in place. I'm waiting on a filament order and a right-angle USB B cable. I might create some sort of side shroud to cover the USB connector into the control box. Upon reviewing my design, I realized I'd forgotten to add the hole over the Pi's processor to allow air circulation down there. I reuploaded the base models with this essential hole added.
