In Aztec mythology, Coyolxauhqui is a powerful daughter of Coatlicue and Mixcoatl who commands the Centzon Huitznahuas, the southern star gods. She rules over her brothers, the Four Hundred Southerners, with authority, leading them in an attack against their mother, Coatlicue, when they learn she's pregnant, convinced she dishonors them all. The disk showing a dismembered Coyolxauhqui was uncovered during construction in 1978 in Mexico City. This discovery sparks the excavation of the Templo Mayor.
