Cowboy's Hobble or Ball and Ring Disentanglement Puzzle
thingiverse
I designed this after the Ball and Ring or Cowboy's Hobble puzzle. It is a puzzle that has been around for a while. You can buy one here: https://www.puzzlemaster.ca/browse/inventors/dalgety/27-cowboy-s-hobble The puzzle is quite difficult. I would rate it 4.5/5 in difficulty. Just remove the ring. You will need about one circumference of the puzzle in rope or string. Print the main body with supports on the build plate only. Version 2 has a small knot holder because it was annoying to solve when the knot was moving around. Have fun! I modelled this in Fusion 360. Edit: Here is an email I received from its inventor: "The puzzle in the photo called "Cowboys Hobble" is a trivial puzzle sold in the 19th Century. It is very important that the "manacle" part cannot be "sprung" open, or the "ball" end passed through the slot. I never called the improved version a called "Cowboy's" anything. "Manacle" and "Ball and Chain" were the first two names we used at Pentangle in 1970s. I think this article explains: http://www.gathering4gardner.org/g4g11gift/Dalgety_James-Puzzles_Invented-Designed-and_Discovered.pdf Very happy for you to use the design with acknowledgment. Best Wishes and Happy Metagrobologising for 2021 James __________________________________ THE PUZZLE MUSEUM The Hordern-Dalgety Collection _________________________________"
