Covid Ventilator

Design and Prototyping of a Low-cost Mechanical Ventilator Due to the recent pandemic crisis, a mechanical respiratory aid device can save a life by providing essential assistance to those with respiratory issues. The primary goal of this project is to develop a reliable device that closely matches factory-produced models in terms of functionality and performance. To ensure compliance with regulatory requirements regarding materials used and minimize the risk of contamination, we have chosen a conventional bag-valve-mask (BVM) for the air duct. This decision was made in light of the open-source design available online, which served as the initial inspiration for this project. However, upon closer inspection, several issues were identified with the original design, prompting us to create an improved version that is easier to produce and more efficient. The new design features reduced mechanical components, making it more cost-effective and accessible. Our long-term objective is to upgrade both electronic and architectural aspects of the device by incorporating essential sensors, thus enabling a fully functional mechanical ventilator capable of providing critical support to those in need.
