Covid Face Mask cotton disk
thingiverse
Yet, another face mask may seem like "one too many," but I'd like to share some approaches that didn't get much attention around. Feature 1: This uses cotton disks as a filter material, which is a good choice due to their excellent filtering properties. However, they don't work well when exposed to moisture, so an internal shield against breath helps prolong the life of the disk. Feature 2: Having two cotton disks makes it easier to breathe through. Feature 3: I upgraded comfort and added a seal over the face by using paper napkins or household materials with a holder at the perimeter. This is a more accessible option compared to using molds for soft resins or rubber seals, which are harder to obtain during lockdowns. Feature 4: The mask holds against the back of your head, not your ears, and any string can be used as a secure attachment. Two functional back pieces are included. Feature 5: Easy printing is achieved with minimal material usage, but small parts may require a brim for stability. When using this mask, please exercise caution, as it's not an N95 mask. The best way to prevent contagion remains washing your hands and avoiding touching your face. I'm currently working on a "snap-on" goggles design that can be paired with this mask, made from household materials like cutting a plastic bottle. I deliberately chose not to add an exhaust valve, focusing instead on keeping others safe as well. The Fusion360 files are available for download; hopefully, someone will take these and create a better version, even though I'm still learning the software.
