I was recently inspired by both the Prusa Research s.r.o. face shield and the use of ski masks for PPE in New York City hospitals, so I decided to buy a £15 full-face scuba mask on Amazon and start retrofitting it to create a design that could be used as a face shield and mask on Coronavirus wards. By removing the snorkel from the top of the mask, I created an attachment that would use MERV 13-grade filter material and the water-tight seal of the snorkel to provide clean airflow for the user. As well as this, I designed a face shield clip to cover the front of the mask using the camera mount provided with the original snorkel.
