Covid 19 "No-touch" hand tool for buttons, switches, doors etc
youmagine
This tool allows users to navigate urban environments without physically interacting with surfaces like switches, buttons, door handles and more. It's a retractable handheld device featuring a modified hook that folds back into its housing after use, preventing contamination of the user's pocket or bag. I've tested this design on various surfaces, including buttons, switches, pull door handles and sliding locks, with excellent results. To maintain optimal performance, I recommend applying hand sanitizer to the button slider hole periodically to keep the hook clean and free from contaminants. This tool can be printed in one piece on a standard print bed or as separate parts. I've printed it using PLA, which provides adequate strength, although ABS or PCMax might offer even greater durability. The design requires a small elastic band to facilitate retraction; I've used both medium Lego Technic silicon bands and silicon Loom bands with success. Before printing this design for personal use, consider creating prototypes for vulnerable individuals around you. I've sent some to my parents as an example. Please note that I assume no liability whatsoever for the misuse or unintended consequences of using this design. Plastic components can break or shatter if subjected to excessive stress or bending. By making, using and sharing this design, users acknowledge they do so at their own risk. UPDATE: An all-in-one screw-together version is now available, requiring 11 M2 self-tapping screws (5mm or 8mm length). The original glue-together design remains an option as well.
