Covid 19 "No-touch" hand tool for buttons, switches, doors etc
thingiverse
This is a tool for navigating an urban environment without having to touch things like switches, buttons, door handles and more. It's a retractable hand tool with a modified hook that tucks away after use to avoid contaminating your pocket, purse or bag. Now includes the OpenScad source files. I've tested this on buttons, switches, pull door handles, sliding locks and more. I recommend squirting hand sanitizer into the button slider hole every so often to keep the hook free of contamination. It can be printed in one go on a print bed or as separate parts. I've printed it in PLA and it seems quite strong. ABS or PCMax would probably work even better, but I haven't tested them yet. The design needs a small elastic band to power the retraction. I've used a medium Lego Technic silicone band and a silicone Loom band and both seem to work well. Do print these for vulnerable people around you. I accept no liability whatsoever for the use or misuse of this design. Please be aware that plastic parts will break or shatter if bent or overstressed. You agree to make, use and share this at your own risk. #NoTouchChallenge UPDATE 28th May 2020 - I've just added the source OpenScad files for both versions. If you create a derivative, please tag this thing, share the source files and post a picture. Thanks. UPDATE 19th April 2020 - I've just added an alternative all-in-one print version called v4-screwfix. This version has been designed to be screwed together with 11 x M2 self-tapping screws. 5mm or 8mm length will work. If you don't have the screws, go for v3 instead.
