Covid-19 Mask
thingiverse
Mask is a breeze to clean, fits snugly on the face and seals incredibly well. Filter is an affordable kitchen roll. The mask is based on a design found at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4236947. The mask body has been reinforced, rotated to fit perfectly on a 3D printer table plane for easy printing (no support necessary), and features an oval frame and grid frame. An exhalation valve was designed and added as an optional feature. After printing the valve body, clean out the eight holes with a four-millimeter drill bit. For the valve membrane, cut a twenty-four-millimeter diameter rubber disc with a three-millimeter center hole. Any strong rubber glove material will do. Apply silicone grease to the membrane for improved seal. The valve cap can be either tight (without a filter) or loose (with a textile filter). To drill a sixteen-millimeter hole in the body, be careful not to crack it. Glue the valve into position. On April 14th: A new version of the mask design was added, featuring a sixteen-millimeter hole for the valve (Mask16mmDrill.stl). The ValveLow.stl valve should be used with this updated version. Based on current experience, I strongly recommend printing and using the valve version only. The mask remains tight when exhaling, and there is no fog on glasses. According to a tip that was read but not yet tried: The edge of the mask can be made softer by soaking it in warm water at 80 degrees Celsius for several minutes before placing it on the face until it cools down. However, be aware that if the mask becomes too soft and is forced onto the face, it may collapse. On May 16th, 2020: A new version of the ring, Ring V2, was released, featuring support for filter paper and added hooks. This design was created using Tinkercad. It can be edited online at https://www.tinkercad.com/things/8huqexBFfEg.
