Covid-19 Face-Shield
thingiverse
When Covid-19 hit Tyrol in Austria, we were tasked with designing face shields for medical staff, doctors, nurses, and people working in prisons. We opted to create our own design, as the printable versions like the Prusa Face Shields didn't meet our production speed requirements. We spent time testing various materials available in our fablab, eventually finding a winning combination of 0.5mm Polycarbonate and 1mm PETG. Our goal was to minimize production time, reduce material usage, and employ screws instead of glue for a sturdy yet comfortable fit. The result is a face shield that can be laser-cut in two minutes and assembled in five to eight minutes, depending on whether you need to remove the protective sheet from the plastic sheets. Two color options are available in the DXF file: blue represents 1mm PETG, while red signifies 0.5mm Polycarbonate. The holes are designed for 3mm screws, measuring 3.5mm in diameter; you can modify them if you have different screw sizes. We used a rubber band that attaches to slots A and G.
