I've been inundated with ads for this kickstarter, the "hygeine hand". I wouldn't have given it a second thought but I see it every. single. day. It's a single 50g piece of brass, cut by a waterjet in 2 minutes, for $25. It ships in June. Instead of paying $25 for a junk trinket 2 months from now, you could print this version in 25 minutes instead! This is an improved version on their design; it has a chamfer. And a carrying case. Copper and copper alloys (including brass) are inherently antimicrobial, though there is no mention of whether or not the brass used by the kickstarter is EPA certified. Using copper or brass-fill filaments will probably not be enough; if you have access to a sintering furnace you could use something like this filament to create an entirely metal piece. I make no claims about the antimicrobial nature of sintered copper. If you don't have access to a sintering furnace you could at least make this capacitive by buying an electrically conductive filament and printing in that. Much more effective than this tool would be refraining from touching your face, wearing a mask (and more importantly imploring others to wear masks) and washing your hands when you come inside. But, if you have to have one of these, save yourself a few bucks and print /waterjet one yourself.
