Covid 19 adapters with EN DIN 148-1 thread for diving mask (Subea by Decathlon)
thingiverse
This project was designed specifically for university clinics as a backup solution during the Corona pandemic. With these adapters, it's possible to create a low-cost and easy-to-print solution for respiratory equipment or respiratory protection devices. Therefore, a cheap diving Subea mask from Decathlon (https://www.decathlon.de/p/schnorchelmaske-easybreath/_/R-p-1616?mc=8401951&c=GR%C3%9CN_T%C3%BCRKIS) can be modified to one of these devices. Both adapters, for the chin and head, have an EN DIN 148-1 thread that allows a FFP3 filter or an adapter for respiratory equipment to be screwed into them. A requirement for these adapters is that a one-way valve should be integrated into them. This would optimize breath flow because only the head adapter takes in air, while the chin adapter releases air. The structure of seals has been optimized so they are easy to print and can be assembled quickly. The filters clamp the seal, allowing the adapters to be sealed from outside. Advantages: * Cheap and easy-to-print adapter * Easy-to-print seals * Adapter for chin and head with one-way valves * Possible solution for sealing chin valve Notes: * For deployment in a clinic, the adapter should be additionally sealed with heat shrinkable tubing at the head adapter and hot melt glue or silicon at the chin adapter. This would make it a practical solution. * Difficult disassembly of chin connector on diving mask * No practice test in clinic * Two filters are necessary Assembly steps: 1. Disassemble all connectors from Subea mask (head and chin) and chin membrane 2. Put the membrane valve with seal_head into the head adapter 3. Mount head adapter onto mask 4. Screw FFP3 filter into head adapter 5. Mount chin adapter onto mask 6. Stick chin seal one and two together with glue (picture) * Why? For membrane and contact area at mask, a smooth surface is necessary! 7. Assemble 1 and 2 in chin adapter 8. Put membrane and spacer into chin adapter 9. Clamp seal system with FFP3 filter 10. Seal mask with hot melt glue and shrinkable tubing 3D-print: * All products should be printed with 100% Infill. * Prusa PETG and TPU (Flexfill) are used in pictures. * The adapters are printed with support, but you must remove it conscientiously. * A small nozzle diameter (0.4mm) with a small layer height (0.1mm- 0.15 mm) should be used. This solution is intended to help clinics that need a low-cost and fast solution for respiratory devices. The use of these adapters in practice is at your own risk.
