This lock prevents patio umbrellas from spinning out of control when they're tilted to block the sun's harsh rays. Specifically, it's designed for use on 37mm umbrella poles, although it might work just as well on poles measuring between 36 and 38 millimeters in diameter - that being said, it hasn't been thoroughly tested.
