Covered Bulb Socket Element
thingiverse
This updated interlocking design is suitable for lamps featuring a light-bulb inside a polyhedral shell. It's derived from "http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6055" with the hinged piece mirrored and additional pieces to cover the socket added. The covering can be made using elements from "http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6281". Creating a permanent light socket for this design was challenging, and replacing the bulb is difficult; future designs might address these issues with threaded or slotted designs. Currently, pieces must be held together with super-glue. Refer to "http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6055" for more instructions. When attaching the outer cover (hex_outer.stl) and wiring the socket, ensure it fits with any plugs. View an exploded assembly in "http://www.thingiverse.com/image:51569". For a pictured setup, use panel 1 without gluing, hook the socket onto the chain first, then slide the back panel into place. Detailed instructions and photos will be posted upon constructing a new lamp. Hinge clearance may require adjustments; refer to notes on hinge clearance in the original design. A separate thing with detailed dodecahedron-encased lamp design might be posted later.
