The ventilator will operate primarily through mechanical means, providing benefits such as simpler manufacturing capabilities. Initial and subsequent design modifications are simplified using minimal electrical components strategically, particularly where they enhance patient safety by narrowing the control range validation requirements. Pneumatic powered valves regulate system operation, reducing electrical power consumption when the main power supply fails; backup power is required to run the alarm system for an extended period. The pump will be a single-cylinder design with dual silicone sealed partitions creating two chambers. One chamber receives conditioned low-pressure air and oxygen mix that expands in the same chamber during the patient's expiratory cycle. Outlet pressure from this chamber is precisely controlled via a relief valve opening at the correct threshold. Pressure builds in the other chamber via valves, pressurizing it to a higher degree and moving the partition accordingly. Partition movement is adjusted to an exact distance correlating to prescribed tidal volume. Excess pressure is mitigated through a blow-off valve. The user interface features analog components only, simplifying regulatory validation; readouts for users are presented on analog instruments like pressure gauges and dials. The system will be lightweight, compact, and portable with a small footprint. A handle or attachment points facilitate easy integration into hospital room setups. A rolling tripod supports the vertical ventilator mounting rod at an adjustable height for medical staff convenience. A platform for the humidifier is situated on the vertical mounting rod. Non-disposable components are easily identifiable to assist patient transfer and setup. The design prioritizes 3D printing for local manufacturability.
