Counting rockets (tactile)
thingiverse
This set of 'rockets' are for students to explore the connection between the word, the digit and a tally mark for each number from 0 to 9. Each rocket is split into three pieces - The top piece has the digit in print and braille - The middle piece has a tally mark - The bottom piece has the word in print and braille This activity is accessible for both print and braille users to explore together. The pieces only match together in one way so they are stacked correctly. Magnets can be added to the back to help with keeping things in place which is important for touch readers. The tally marks in this example are a system that appears to be used in some European countries. These were chosen to be more tactually (and visually) distinct than the usual parallel lines with a diagonal line for 5.
