thingiverse
This compact sanitizing bot will traverse your countertops, mimicking a Roomba, disinfecting work surfaces with intense UVC lighting. This model serves as a prototype demonstration (missing control electronics and software), but an upgraded future version will include: Advanced sensors: bump detection, drop-off awareness, tilt monitoring Safety features: automatic shutdowns in case of emergencies or scheduled stoppages Navigation system: enabling efficient pathfinding and exploration Wall charger unit: allowing effortless recharging on demand Experience the bot in motion at https://youtu.be/2rI_AWi3CdA. Instructions for building this version: 1. Acquire a CVS pocket-sized UVC sanitizing wand, repurposed from e-bay 2. Procure an EG2208 2-pole slide switch from Digikey 3. Obtain two GH12-1324Y gear motors from Jameco 4. Secure four AA batteries (ideally with soldered tabs) 5. Source five 4-40 x 3/8" socket cap screws 6. Gather hookup wire, superglue, foam tape CAUTION: Avoid direct eye exposure to the UV light as it can cause damage. To assemble this version: Print one TOP part, one BOTTOM part, and two WHEEL parts. Carefully detach the covers from the sanitizer and remove the driver board. Remove unsoldered lamp leads and battery terminal wires. Insert the reflector/lamp assembly into the slot in the BOTTOM part. Mount the driver board to the mounting posts using two screws. Secure the lamp wires and Scotch tape four AA batteries together, creating a 6v cell. Attach the motor shafts to the gearheads, leaving a small gap between each component. Interconnect the wheels with O-rings, pressing them firmly onto the motors. Adhere foam tape to the side of the gearhead housing. Install motors and wheels into the BOTTOM part. Securely attach the slide switch to the notch above the cutout in the BOTTOM using superglue. Wire components according to the provided wiring diagram. Assemble the TOP to the BOTTOM with three screws. Remember that the UV lamp driver contains an integrated tilt switch for added safety, even though additional caution is recommended when directing light into anyone's eyes.
