Counter Drone AR15 Net Launcher
thingiverse
This design is created to be used with an AR15 that fires standard or blank ammunition, and it fits over a standard A2 flash hider. The launch tube locks in place via 1/8" pins or nails set in the "lock" piece and inserted through the launch tube in matching holes. These pins line up with two circular grooves on the flash hider. The projectile itself is rifled and segmented, designed to use white cord from inside a standard paracord attached to each segment by gluing it into obvious holes and then spiral winding around the base. When fired, the scoop in the front opens the sabots and the rifling causes the net to open evenly to whatever diameter you can fit in there. To use this with blank ammo, use the closed projectile base and the projectile with a closed face. With regular ammo, you use the other one obviously. You aim the rifle as you would normally but adjust your elevation for the weight of the projectile. A couple practice shots and you'll get the hang of it. Effective range depends on ammo, but you should expect a useful range around 75m or so. Play with infill to change the projectile weight and consequently ballistics. An adjustable gas regulator that you can turn off can add some more tang to the shot as well. Either way, enjoy your skeet shooting with prizes. Material doesn't really matter though I'd recommend PLA vapor polished on the sabots and launch tube. You can even use pieces of fishing line strategically super glued in the rifling to cause the projectile to stay as one piece longer. I do recommend printing the projectile at 99.5% scale if you're using Cura for a slicer. Update: Parts labeled V2 are modified for my particular printer, including a tighter bore on the launch tube for the muzzle brake and wider gaps between the sabots for easier printing. The remaining parts are unaffected.
